Plein Air Painting!
All plein air sessions are on Thursdays, meeting at 10am. If the weather is unsuitable and you want to know if Judy or Pam are still going, please ring Pam on 07582 702219, or Judy on 07899 914999.
Timings are entirely flexible - you may choose to sketch for an hour or paint solidly for 5 hours - it is entirely up to you.
At each event we also suggest a meeting point for coffee/lunch/natter at 12.30pm. This is entirely optional and just means, particularly at more spread out events (such as Abbotsbury and Symondsbury) ) that there is the opportunity to meet fellow artists.
Recommended items to take:
Your usual art equipment, but reduce it as much as possible so that you don’t carry too much. On your first session, if you're unsure of what to bring, just bring a sketchbook. Anything goes...!
Hat if it’s sunny
Insect repellent
Plastic to cover work in case of sudden rain
Stool/lightweight chair
Easel
Board
Bulldog clips are useful, especially if it’s windy
A drink/sandwich etc.
Plastic bag to put rubbish in – and take home with you
Wet wipes
Kitchen roll
If you’re doing watercolours – jar of water; if oils -tightly fitting jar of solvents
Comfortable shoes and a good idea to wear socks if you’re standing in long grass.
I find it useful to carry equipment in a wheelie shopping trolley, preferably with biggish wheels as terrain might be rough.
I find a handbag superfluous so, again, just carry what’s necessary and don’t forget your mobile phone! It’s a good idea to photograph your scene so that you can continue working on your painting at home.
